Machilipatnam was founded in the 1493C.E. By the trading Arabs who found their way form the red sea to Southern India to the spot of eastern Peninsula.
Machilipatnam was PORT of call for the British, French, and Dutch in the course of the merchandise and Journey through the Seas for trade in Europe, South East Asia and South East. The major export items are Diamonds, Spices etc.,

The District Hospital, Machilipatnam has been established under the control of A.P. Vaidya Vidhana Parishad in the year 1985 and has been functioning since then providing Medical and Health services to the citizen of the District as well as the surrounding mandals of the neighboring Districts.
The Hospital is expanded and renovated under Andhra Pradesh First Referral Health Systems Project aided by the World Bank and Bed Strength was increased to 330 beds and subsequently the bed strength was raised to 553 beds.
The Government of Andhra Pradesh has decided to establish a Government Medical College in every district. At present in the state of Andhra Pradesh, there are 11 Government Medical Colleges in 26 Districts.
